Website Update: Places

 In news & updates, travel

I’m working on updating my site, and tonight I’ve added some new work from my travels this past year! I’ve been very lucky to have visited some of the most beautiful places in the world – right here in my own “backyard” of the west coast.

This year, Havilah and I traveled around the wild west of Arizona and Utah, and it was amazing. So I’ve updated my travel portfolio (aka “places”) with some photos from my favorite shots.

cholla cactus garden

This first photo is actually from our California roadtrip last year. We started in Palm Springs and visited Joshua Tree. We stopped at the Cholla Cactus Garden, right around sunrise as we drove through the park. I definitely encourage you to start the drive right before sunrise – not only is it amazing, but the temperature is also still bearable!

zion mountain ranch

Our first major stop on this year’s trip was to Zion National Park, and we stayed just outside the park at the Zion Mountain Ranch. Here is a shot of our little cabin at sunrise.

bryce canyon

Bryce Canyon is fairly close to Zion so we took a day trip. I’ve always wanted to visit Bryce, especially since the first national Sierra Club pamphlet I ever designed featured Bryce Canyon on the cover.

grand canyon

We spent a week or so rafting down 100 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. One afternoon we stopped to make camp, and a group of us hiked up a cliff to check out some Anasazi ruins at the top. As you can see, the view was worth the climb!

horseshoe bend

Horseshoe Bend is part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Page, Arizona. I never heard of this place before and was blown away when I saw it. The river bend is shaped like a horse shoe, hence the name, and it is gigantic. The little light blue dots you see are boats.

glen canyon

Glen Canyon is amazingly beautiful. It is breathtaking and it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I never knew places like this existed…

storm

After we left Arizona for Utah, we drove right into a storm. It poured rain and was dark and dreary for a long time…

open road

On our way up to Moab to visit Arches National Park.

arches national park

Ahhh we made it to Arches National Park and it poured rain the whole time!
