Photography Equipment + Tools

canon 5d mk iii body

Canon 5D Mark III

I’ve been using the Mark III since shortly after its launch a few years ago. This camera is really amazing, and its basically the default camera for most professional portrait photographers. This camera takes beautiful photos and also has HD video. The color quality, speed, and functionality make this camera a winner in so many ways! Check it out

canon 5d mark 2

Canon 5D Mark II

This is a great camera, I’ve been using it for many years. I currently use this camera as my primary backup as well as my extra camera, if I’m shooting an event or something that requires 2 active camera setups. This camera is also full-frame which is great! Check it out

canon 24-70 lens

Canon 24-70 f/2.8L Lens

This is the lens of all lenses. I use this lens all the time, it is my go-to lens for almost everything. I love it because of its versatility and it is a workhorse of a lens, not to mention super fast! Some people are really into “prime” lenses (no zoom), and I have a couple myself, but while there is a time and place for “prime” lenses, this lens is perfect for almost anything you can imagine shooting. The clarity is amazing, images are sharp, and it is very fast and can shoot very well in low-light situations. Check it out

canon 70-200 lens

Canon 70-200 f/2.8L Lens

This is the best “long” lens money can buy. This lens is fast, and in my opinion is the perfect length for beautiful portraits. It creates awesome bokeh too! The only downside is that it’s pretty heavy… if you use it all day with a large body your arm will be feelin’ it later.. LOL! Check it out

canon 85mm lens

Canon 85mm f/1.2L Lens

I love this lens – it is absolutely perfect for portraits, food, just about anything. It’s a prime lens and does not zoom in or out. The focal length is great to feel closer to your subject and give your photos more of a telephoto feel.Check it out

canon 50mm lens

Canon 50mm f/1.2L Lens

This is a classic prime lens that’s great for portraits and general use. They say the human eye sees at around 50mm, so that gives you an idea of the visual range. It’s a great, simple, and very expensive little lens!Check it out

canon 40mm pancake

Canon 40mm Lens

OMG I love this lens! I’m letting the cat out of the bag with this one… this lens RULES. It’s called the “pancake” lens because it’s so flat (and cute). I love it because it makes photos much more interesting because it is not quite a wide-angle lens, and it’s not quite a portrait lens. As we say in Oakland, it’s hella cheap! The quality is really great too, I wasn’t so sure because it’s not an “L” lens, but I totally stand by this little bad boy. See for yourself!Check it out

canon 50mm lens

Canon 50mm f/1.4 Lens

If you can’t afford the “L” series 50mm lens, this is the next best alternative, and takes excellent photos. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to tell the difference… a lot of people use this lens.Check it out

photography gear guide

Canon 580EX II Speedlite Flash

I love this flash… it is powerful, versatile, and has some pretty cool functions that will take your images to the next level. I use this flash all the time – at events, for portraits, indoors, outdoors, you name it. You can use it as a master flash with off-camera flash which makes it very versatile. It’s worth every penny! Check it out

beginners guide to photography

Canon 430EX Speedlite Flash

I started out with this flash, it is perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to learn more about flash and lighting. Although this flash does not have master capabilities, you can use it as a slave. Check it out

Memory Cards + Accessories

compact flash memory

SanDisk 64GB Compact Flash Card

This is just about the biggest memory card I will use in my camera. I have a 64GB as well as a bunch of 32gb, 16gb, 8gb and few 4gb. For the purpose of shooting for long periods of time, I find that the 32gb or 64gb cards give me the peace of mind to shoot continuously without fear of running out of space! Check it out

sandisk cf card reader

SanDisk CF Card Reader

This CF card reader is awesome. I bought this thing about 8 years ago and have been using the same one since. Never faulters, has never failed. Tried and true! Check it out

manfrotto tripod

Manfrotto 055 Tripod

I bought this tripod because it was time to upgrade from my existing one. This tripod is significantly more durable, stable and heavy-duty. I really like it so far! Check it out

rechargeable batteries

Eneloop Rechargeable AA Batteries

These are great rechargeable batteries! I have a ton of them and you can charge them over and over. Check it out

aa battery charger

AA Battery Charger

This is pretty much the king of all rechargeable battery docks. You can charge up to 16 batteries at a time, and you can see a charge progress bar for each of the batteries in the dock. Check it out
